Vacuuming Your New Carpet – Why It Is Important
You just bought a new carpet and it is beautiful in your home. But it won’t take long before it will need vacuuming. In fact, you should vacuum the carpet right away to attempt to get rid of any pollutants or allergens trapped in even the new fibers. But why regular and frequent vacuuming so important on a carpet? It is more than just to pick up the dirt.
Most dirt that blows in from the outside in the desert climates or is tracked in from regular walking is dry dirt. Wet dirt in the form of mud is easy to see and can be cleaned with a little effort. But dry dirt is not so easy to see unless it accumulates because of irregular vacuuming. Remember that dirt is made of sand and sand is used to make glass. Think about it. As these tiny particles build in you carpet because you don’t vacuum, the can actually cut the fibers within it as people walk over the accumulated dirt. Dry dirt is the easiest to clean and standard vacuums do a very good job of it.
Frequent vacuuming also means that you actually have to vacuum with less effort and not as often. This is because when you do not do frequent vacuuming the dirt accumulates and when you finally do get around to it, you have to go over the same spot repeatedly to get all of the dirt.
If you have people living in your home with asthma, vacuuming your new carpet begins to become more of a health safety measure than anything else. People with chronic asthma have been known to do. The problem is that dust mites and animal dander get lodged in the carpet fibers. Dust mites are actual tiny insects that live in every home no matter how clean it is. Some people have allergies to dust mites and animal dander and in many cases they have asthma too. Even after you vacuum, there are still dust mites in you home but there are fewer. So regular vacuuming is important just to keep these allergens under control.
In the case of dust mites, they are so tiny that they can escape the vacuum and get back into the carpet. You have to understand how a vacuum cleaner works to see that there is great risk of the allergens going right back into air and carpet. Vacuum cleaners are based on the flow of air. Therefore, vacuum cleaner bags have to be porous. Mites can get past the pores of the bag. Using a vacuum cleaner with a quality filtration system will prevent some of this but it is important that when a vacuum cleaner bag becomes full, get rid of it right away so that the mites do not escape back on to the carpet.
And the obvious reason for vacuuming your new carpet often: It just makes it keep that new look longer.
