Carpet Deep Cleaning - Why and When To Deep Clean Your Carpet

Many of us think that just vacuuming our carpet often is sufficient to keep it clean. However your carpet needs much more than just this simple procedure. It needs what is known as a deep cleaning a few times in a year. Deep cleaning is done by special machines and it is design to get the dirt and allergens underneath the bottom surface of the carpet or at the floor level.

But why do we need to deep clean? Deep cleaning gets at the dirt and foreign material between the bottom matting of the carpet and the floor. Vacuum cleaners cannot reach this nor do they have the suction power to pull the foreign matter from the floor. The dirt and allergens basically get lodged between these two surfaces. A deep cleaner will force water or steam down to the surface of the carpet and floor, suspend the material, and then extract it.

There are other reasons to deep clean a carpet as well. It just helps bring out that new look to it again plus deodorizes it and makes it smell fresh and clean. It also restores the rich color or brightness it had when new as much as is possible.

So how often or when do you do a deep cleaning? As a rule of thumb, it should be done around two or three times a year. But you will be able to tell when you look at it and it looks dingy from maybe not enough vacuum cleaner action. Or, it might even begin to smell musty.

To hire a professional to clean your carpet is much more expensive than doing it yourself but the quality of t he work may just make it worth your while. You can by deep cleaning machines in the major stores for reasonably affordable prices however most of them use hot water in the tanks and not steam. A professional will have steaming equipment which is very strong for deep cleaning carpets. This is not to say that the hot water home units don’t work well. It really depends on how dirty you feel your carpet is and how much time you have.

And speaking of time when it comes to deep cleaning, you need to consider how long it takes to dry your wet carpet. Professional carpet cleaners will have large fans and powerful extractors to get the carpet dry fast. You have to be careful here because if you are not able to get it dried fast then it could leave water stains or even worse mold could grow deep down. Many people are allergic to mold so that would not be good at all.

But the best part about deep cleaning is it just makes your carpet look new again and you can enjoy your investment once more.
