Choosing Carpet - Things To Consider Before You Buy Carpets

Providing a warm hardworking covering for your floors, choosing the right carpet contributes a significant area of color, texture and many times pattern to a room.

Considering between lifestyles, preferences for color, pattern, texture, warmth, sound, quality, durability and most importantly cost – carpet buyers often faced plenty of question and difficulties when buying suitable carpets for their homes.

When choosing the best carpet for your house, ask yourself these questions to ensure you make a suitable choice for each room in your house and to get the best value for your money.

1. How much can I afford to spend on my carpet flooring?
This is the first question to ask as your budget will seriously affect the quality and type of carpets you can get. A good rule of thumb is to get the best quality carpet whenever possible because cheap carpets are usually a waste of your time and resources – they usually wear and stain easily and badly. One would have to get a replacement much faster than if you get better quality ones.

When calculating the cost, bear in mind to always increase your budget for more carpet than the area of the room that you want to fit the carpet with. There might be awkward shapes and areas that might require more carpet during installation.

2. Do I want a wall-to-wall or an area carpet?
Wall-to-wall carpeting is the most popular choice for providing luxurious comfort and style in a room. The cost would be higher compare to area carpeting. If you are one of those who move house frequently or soon, you might want to consider an area rug.

3. What color carpet do I want?
Depending on the type of effects you want to create for your room, such as making a cold room warmer, lightening a dark room, making a large space look cozier, you can take sample of your wall paints, fabrics and coverings to match in the carpet shop. Tip – Take a piece of carpet home to check it in daylight and under your house lighting to see if this is the exact color that you are looking for.

4. Where and how do I buy carpet?
Carpet is available from large department stores, furniture and carpet showrooms and local flooring companies. Some suppliers will bring samples to your house and do some measurements before quoting a price. If you plan to visit a showroom, remember to bring along your house floor print or a simple sketch plan to show them the dimensions.
